Product Announcement: Team Events

Hey there! We wanted to start pushing out regular updates that focus on the fine details of big feature updates as we push them out to everyone.

Today we want to introduce a new type of Event

🏆 Team Events!

We’ve created a new type of Event where users must create or join a team in order to participate in the Event.

For these Events, all members’ in-game stats on the team are combined to complete Challenges or to compete against other teams on Leaderboards.

📣 Create a Team

When trying to join a Team Event, you’ll quickly discover that you cannot do so–at least not without a team first.

You are able to create your own team, give it your own team name, and invite friends or other Smerf members to join the team. While waiting for members to join, there is a convenient Team Messaging system that members can use to organize and communicate with each other. Once your team has the required number of members, your team will automatically join the Event.

💞 Join a Team

If you find yourself quite popular that day, you may encounter many invites for several different teams.

By visiting the Event Teams page, you can preview all of the Teams you have been invited to, who their members or invited members are, and choose which one you would like to join the Event with.

🎮 Compete as a Team

After a Team Event has started, and you have joined with a team, you can visit the Results tab of the Event to view the leaderboard. By doing this, you’ll see a list of every participating team by their names, and how well they are doing. Tapping each team will even show a list of that team’s members and how much each is contributing.

At the end of the Event, if your team places high enough on the leaderboard, each member of your team will receive the reward for your hard work! Depending on the reward type, each member may be automatically given the reward or they will be prompted to claim their reward.

🎉 Complete Challenges Together

Teams can also complete challenges together that aggregate each player’s stats similar to a Leaderboard, but non-competitively. A visible progress bar displays your own contribution towards the challenge completion.

Unlike Leaderboards, your team does not have to wait until the event ends to receive rewards from completing a challenge! All members of a team will receive a notification that they have earned the reward as soon as the challenge requirements have been fulfilled.
